The woman's ability to conceive is reliant on the regulation of substances called hormones. If these hormones are not released at the correct times, the woman may be unable to ovulate. This can prevent her from becoming pregnant. Clomiphene citrate is a medication that acts on the hypothalamus, causing it to release GnRH. This then triggers the release of FSH and LH, allowing the woman to release an egg from the ovary. This, and other medications that act on the woman's hormonal system, can help women with fertility problems to conceive.
